Learn. Grow. Sustain.

The Social Justice Committee will be hosting a supper and presentation about Somos Children’s Village. Ben Carson, who is one of the stalwarts of the Read to Me, Father program at the prison, is on sabbatical this semester from BSU. He recently spent a week volunteering at Somos Children’s Village, a school and farm for Mayan children in the mountains of Guatemala. The directors of the project will be in the US for a week. Ben asked those of us from the prison group who are from First Parish about hosting them for a presentation/fundraising event. We agreed and are working on this event.

Somos is a very special place with a school and farm, and buildings made of recycled soda bottles stuffed with other recycled material.  They try to be as sustainable as possible.

We hope that many of you can attend to hear about their good work and make donations in support.

Project Somos Guatemala works with impoverished Mayan families in the Central Highlands of Guatemala, addressing two major issues; education and nutrition. Founders, Greg Kemp & Heather Knox will be in town, visiting from Guatemala, sharing the story of their journey to make a difference for children and families living in extreme poverty. To learn more and to find
out how you can get involved in this meaningful project come join us on Monday, April 22nd!
