The mission of First Parish Church is to be a voice for the liberal religious values and principles of Unitarian Universalism in the community. Formal weekly services are held most of the year in our handsome, historic Sanctuary with its Hook Organ and its restored interior.  We enjoy hearing a variety of viewpoints and, on any Sunday morning, our minister, a guest minister or a layperson may deliver the sermon.    Religious Education programs for children and youth are conducted in the adjoining Parish Hall building. (Learn more about the Church School here). In July and August, informal lay-led worship is held in the Upper Parish Hall.

Various activities take place in the church throughout the year. These include Fourth of July Festivities as part of a town-wide observance of the holiday, our special Celebration of Peace Vigil Weekend in conjunction with the U.N. International Day of Peace in late September, a Holly Day Artisan Faire, a Christmas Candlelight Service on December 23, monthly meetings of the T“UU”rning Leaves Book Club, and weekly meetings of the Insight Meditation Circle.  (Learn more about our special Peace Vigil Weekend here.)

Our modern Unitarian Universalist congregation traces its roots back to the early history of the Town of Bridgewater. Through an act of the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, permission was granted to English settlers to establish a new precinct known as South Parish. This precinct was incorporated June 1, 1716. The congregation looks forward with great anticipation to 2016, the 300th anniversary of the founding of both the church and the town.

Our present church building, built in 1845, is the third one on this site. More about the history and the architecture of this lovely Greek Revival building can be found here.

Our building is a beautiful, sturdy home for our parish life, a place for worship, meetings, dinners and performances. We invite visitors to attend our weekly worship services. And please consider using First Parish’s facilities for your events or meetings.
