In times of hardship, joy can sometimes feel incongruent. We may wonder, “Is it ok to celebrate when so many are suffering?” We may think of joy as a reward that comes at the end of a season of difficulty. Yet, it may be more beneficial to view joy as something we generate through intentional practice, even in the midst of suffering.
In today’s All Ages service, we’ll turn to diverse sources–from the ministry of the famous clown doctor, Patch Adams, to the work of filmmaker Roberto Benigni, to the insights of poet and writer Ross Gay–as we explore our human capacity to create joy, right here and right now.
